Accessibility

Built to be used by everyone who lands on it.

WCAG 2.2 Level AA is the standard we build to. Where the site falls short of it, this page says where, and tells you how to get the same information another way.

Our commitment

Liv-Instyle Canada is working to make liv-instyle.ca usable by everyone, including people who browse with a keyboard alone, with a screen reader, with speech input, at high magnification, or with motion and flashing reduced.

Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. We designed and built this site against that standard rather than retrofitting it afterwards, which is the only way it tends to survive contact with real content.

We consider the site to be substantially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Substantially, not perfectly — the exceptions we know about are listed in clause four, and we would rather name them than claim a clean sheet.

02

What has been done

These are structural decisions built into the site, not an overlay widget bolted onto it. Accessibility overlays tend to make a site worse for the people who actually use assistive technology, so there is not one here.

Structure
Real HTML landmarks — header, navigation, main and footer — with one h1 per page and headings that descend in order without skipping levels. Lists are marked up as lists, and breadcrumbs are a labelled navigation region.
Keyboard
Every link, button, menu and form control can be reached and operated with the keyboard alone. The mega menu and the mobile drawer both close on Escape and return focus to the control that opened them. There are no keyboard traps, and a skip link to the main content is the first thing focus lands on.
Visible focus
Focus is never removed. A two-pixel outline in deep brass with a three-pixel offset follows the keyboard around the page, and it switches to the brighter brass on dark sections so it stays visible on photography.
Colour contrast
Body text, interface text and form labels are checked against a 4.5:1 ratio, and large display headings against 3:1. Colour is never the only thing carrying meaning — an error is a sentence, not a red border on its own.
Motion
The scroll reveals, hairline draws and image zooms all honour the prefers-reduced-motion setting. With reduced motion requested, content appears immediately at full opacity and nothing animates, transitions or scrolls smoothly.
Images
Every photograph carries alternative text describing the room and its materials, written for someone who cannot see it. Decorative marks — the brass hairline ticks, the arrows, the breadcrumb slashes — are hidden from assistive technology so they are not read aloud as noise.
Text sizing
Type is set in relative units and the layout reflows rather than breaking. Pages remain usable at 200% zoom and down to a 320-pixel viewport, with no horizontal scrolling and no content cut off. Text scaling in mobile browsers is left enabled.
Forms
Each field has a visible label that stays visible while you type, rather than a placeholder that vanishes. Required fields are marked in text, errors are written in plain language, tied programmatically to the field they belong to, and announced rather than shown only in colour.

How we test

Automated checks catch perhaps a third of the problems that matter, so they are the start of our testing rather than the end of it.

  • A keyboard-only pass through every page template, following the tab order from the skip link to the footer.
  • Screen reader checks on the booking flow, the contact form and the main navigation.
  • Reflow checks at 200% zoom and at a 320-pixel viewport width.
  • Contrast ratios verified at the design-token level, so a colour cannot fail in one place and pass in another.
  • Automated rule scans run against the whole site when pages change.

Testing is repeated when we add pages or change the design system. This statement is reviewed at the same time.

04

Where we know we fall short

Some content on the site is served by third parties, and we do not control their markup, their keyboard behaviour or their contrast choices.

  • The map on the contact page is an embed from an independent map provider. Its controls may not be fully keyboard operable and its labelling is outside our hands. The same address, postal code and driving context are written in text directly beside it, so nothing is available only inside the map.
  • Links to supplier and manufacturer sites lead to pages built by other organizations to their own standards. We cannot warrant those, and we are happy to read the relevant specification to you instead.
  • Documents we send — a design brochure or an estimate — are produced for print first. Ask and we will supply the same content as plain text, large print, or an accessible email.

If you find something else that does not work, it is a defect and we want to know about it. Reporting one is genuinely useful to us.

05

AODA and alternate formats

We operate in Ontario and take our obligations under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) and the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation seriously.

Any information we publish or send is available in an alternate format on request. That covers these pages, service and portfolio content, design brochures, care and warranty instructions, and your own estimate.

  • Large print, or plain text with the formatting stripped out.
  • An accessible email or a document you can read with your own software.
  • Read aloud to you over the phone, at whatever pace suits.
  • Explained in person by the consultant attending your home.

Alternate formats are provided in a timely way, at no additional cost, and in a format that takes your accessibility needs into account. You do not need to explain why you are asking, and you do not need to supply any documentation.

06

Accessible consultations

Our consultations happen in your home rather than in a showroom, which removes most of the barriers a visit to a premises would create — there are no stairs of ours to climb, no parking to find and no counter to reach across.

Tell us what you need when you book, in the notes field or on the phone, and it will be arranged without a fuss:

  • More time, or a visit split across two shorter appointments.
  • Samples sent ahead so you can consider them before the consultant arrives.
  • Written follow-up rather than a phone call, or the reverse.
  • A support person, interpreter or family member present.
  • A service animal, which is welcome without question.
  • Drawings supplied in large format, or the estimate read aloud.

Our staff are briefed on serving people with disabilities and on working with assistive devices and service animals. If any part of the process is not working for you, say so during the visit and the consultant will adjust it there and then.

07

Feedback and how we respond

Accessibility feedback can be given in whatever way is easiest for you — by phone, by email, by post, or verbally to a consultant during a visit. There is no form you have to fill in.

We acknowledge accessibility feedback within two business days and reply with either a fix or a plan and a date. Where a fix will take longer, we will give you the information you were trying to reach by another route in the meantime, so you are not left waiting on a deployment.

Feedback about a barrier is treated as a defect report rather than a complaint, and the person who raised it is told when it has been resolved.

This statement applies to liv-instyle.ca and was prepared using a self-evaluation against WCAG 2.2 Level AA, carried out by the team that built the site. It was last reviewed in August 2026.

It is reviewed whenever the design system changes or new page templates are added, and the date at the top of the page reflects the current review.
